The Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children, was created at the International Seminar on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children organized by the World Health Organization in Dakar, Senegal from 6th to 10th February 1984 as an apolitical, non-governmental, non-profit making Organization.
The purpose of the meeting was to look into the various problems and difficulties women face in relation to reproduction.
These series of problems were seen to have strong relations the various forms of traditional practices on women within various countries.
The meeting brought together delegates from 28 African Countries including The Gambia.
